Alert employee foils loot attempts of gun-totting youth

Hoshiarpur, Feb 23 (UNI) The alertness and bravery shown by a Safai Sewak Chandershekhar today foiled an attempt of a gun-totting youth to loot cash from a state Bank of India branch and helped in arresting the youth.

According to the SSP, Hoshiarpur, Dr Sukhchain Singh, a youth aged about 22-year, having a leather bag came to the SBI's agriculture branch located on the Bus Stand-Jalandhar road here this afternoon, entered the cabin of branch manager Vijay Kumar and on gun point ordered him to handover the cash.

Manager Vijay Kumar came out from his cabin alongwith the keys and moved towards the vault. On the way, the robber fired a shot.

While he was reloading his gun, bank Safai Sewak Chandershekhar pushed him making him fall to the ground.

Meanwhile, other staff members joined Chandershekhar and over powered the robber and later handed over him to the Model town police station.

The robber was identified as Rakesh Kumar, alias Sanju, of village Mairi, PS Amb (Himachal Pradesh). One .12 bore single barrel gun along with 4 live cartridges and one-empty shell were recovered from him. A case is being registered against him at Model Town police station.

According to the bank sources there was about Rs 5.50 lakh cash lying in the bank branch at the time of incident.
