Sikkim Science Centre inaugurated

Gangtok, Feb 22 (UNI) Sikkim today got its first Science Centre at Marchak with 3.06 crores spent by National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) and state science and technology department.

State Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, while inaugurating the Centre, dedicated it to the people, adding that it would enhance their knowledge of science and technology.

''It is the last in the chain of such centres being set up by NSCM for the Northeastern states,'' the NSCM Director Jayanta Sthanapati said.

The NSCM has spent about Rs 2 crores, while the state government has chipped in Rs 1.6 crores for the project.

Dr Sthanpati added that the NSCM would be arranging at least two exhibitions annually at the centre.

The Centre, first of its kind in the state, has galleries on Unique Humankind and Fun Science, Children's Activity Corner, Science Park and an inflatable dome planetarium.
