Goswami welcomes renaming Delhi roads in memory of litterateurs
New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Chief Whip of the ruling party in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Ramakant Goswami today said renaming of Delhi roads in the memory of litterateurs of different Indian languages was a positive step, receiving appreciation from intellectuals.
Mr Goswami opined that renaming of roads would go a long way in developing an atmosphere conducive to literature in the Capital.
He disclosed that various language academies -- Hindi, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Urdu and Sindhi -- under the Delhi Government, had unanimously passed a resolution urging the government to give due honour to those litterateurs by renaming different roads after their names.
A delegation had also called on state Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in this connection.
Mr Goswami said Delhi has turned into 'cultural capital' of the country as number of programmes were being organised by the Sahitya Kala Parishad and other academies in all parts of the city. The Chief Minister has herself been taking keen interest which has inspired them to organise more such programmes.
