CM regrets over rice smuggling
Chennai, Feb 22 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today expressed regret over smuggling of rice, meant for Public Distribution System (PDS) at cheap rate in the state.
In a poem, the Chief Minister regretted that some women were found involved in rice smuggling, when the scheme of rice at Rs two per kg was launched for their benefit.
He said when women indulge in rice smuggling, a new Bharathi (Revolutionary Poet Bharathi) would come to chide that women should be dealt with on par with men, when they indulged in such heinous act.
Without waiting for the Bharathi to come, they should give up smuggling rice supplied at the PDS to wipe out the tears of the poor, Mr Karunanidhi said.
