New Delhi, Feb 21: The Supreme Court today dismissed the petition of NASSCOM chief Som Mittal seeking to quash the criminal proceedings against him launched for not providing security to a female employee at night leading to her rape and murder in Karnataka.

A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices R V Raveedran and J M Panchal expunged the remarks made by Justice Markandey Katju recommending restoration of provision for anticipatory bail in UP. The apex court in its order said ''remarks made by Justice Katju shall not be the part of the judgement because remarks were not related to the subject matter of the case which was before the court. Another judge on the bench Justice H K Sema had also not agreed with Justice Katju on that part of the judgement." With today's judgement the Supreme Court has allowed the procecution of the NASSCOM chief.
