Resolution seeks classical status for Telugu

Hyderabad, Feb 21 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council today unanimously adopted a resolution, urging the Centre to sanction Classical Status for Telugu language.

Moving the resolution in the Council, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said his government was striving hard to get classical status for Telugu language.

He said he had already discussed the matter with Pime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni.

He said the Legislative Assembly had already passed a resolution in this regard and the government would pressurise the Centre in this regard for early sanction.
