Bhubaneswar,Feb 21 (UNI) Orissa Assembly Speaker Maheswar Mohanty today admitted an Opposition-sponsored adjournment motion on the law and order problem for discussion in the House.

The motion was admitted after much noisy scene when members from the treasury bench protested to the long speech of Congress deputy leader Narashingha Mishra during the debate on the admissibility of the adjournment motion.

Mr Mishra, who initiated the debate, went on attacking the ruling BJD-BJP for its 'total failure' to tackle the naxalite problem, particularly the February 15 attack at Nayagarh.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Raghunath Mohanty, rising on a point of order, drew the attention of the Speaker stating that Mr Mishra had alone consumed more than 35 minutes.

He was soon supported by Government Chief Whip Kishore Mohanty, who argued that the Opposition members should complete their speech within 30 minutes, but Mr Mishra had alone taken more than 30 minutes.

This caused a furore with all the Congress members demanding a full-fledged debate and pressed for admissibility of the adjournment motion.

The Speaker then asked them to stand in support of their demand and when all the Congress members stood up to press for the motion, the Speaker admitted it and fixed 1510 hours for discussion while adjourning the House for lunch.
