AP Assembly adjourned for the day

Hyderabad, Feb 21 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned for the day as major opposition parties today stalled the proceedings to press their demands.

As utter pandemonium prevailed in the House even after two adjournments, Speaker K R Suresh Reddy abruptly adjourned the House for the day.

The House would meet again tomorrow.

Earlier in the day, the mayhem began when Speaker K R Suresh Reddy disallowed the adjournment motions of the TDP on classical language status to Telugu, the TRS on House resolution for separate Telangana state, the CPI on price rise and CPI(M) on non-allocation of funds in the Budget in proportion to population for the SCs, STs, BCs and Minorities.

The agitated TRS, CPI and CPI(M) members rushed to the Speaker's podium and raised slogans to press their demands.

Stating that the government had taken up the issue of granting classical language status to Telugu, the Speaker repeatedly appealed to the TDP members to take their seats.

Following pandemonium, the Speaker initially adjourned the House for fifteen minutes.

When the House reassembled, the opposition members insisted that the listed business be set aside and an immediate discussion be allowed on the issues raised by them.

As repeated appeals to the opposition to resume their seats fell on deaf ears, the Speaker again adjourned the House for another 15 minutes.
