14 lakh megatonne sugar production expected in 2008 in Guj
Gandhinagar, Feb 21 (UNI) Sugar production in Gujarat is expected to come down to 14 lakh megatonne in 2008 as compared to 14.21 lakh megatonne last year.
Adressing a review meeting of officials of cooperative associations in the state, Cooperation minister Dilip Sanghani urged sugar associations to use modern technology to cut production costs in the sugar sector.
The Minister said the Federation of Cooperative Associations has done a commendable job by trying to revive closed or bankrupt sugar cooperative associations.
Mr Sanghani also emphasised the need to concentrate on by-products like ethanol in sugar sector, so that farmers can be given more affordable prices.
