9 DMK workers held for attacking MDMK partymen

Karur, Feb 20: Police have arrested nine ruling DMK functionaries in connection with the attack on 15 MDMK volunteers, in which party Propaganda secretary Nanjil Sampath and Kulithalai Municipality Vice-Chairman M Pallaviraja were injured two days ago.

According to the police, the arrested included Kulithalai assembly constituency MLA Manickam. The arrests were made late last night.

The MDMK partymen were attacked during a public meeting, by a gang carrying wooden logs and lethal weapons, who came from behind the dias.

Mr Sampath, who was rushed to a private hospital at Tiruchirapalli, had alleged that the attack was part of a conspiracy by the ruling party to destroy the MDMK party in Tamil Nadu.
