India can't be coerced by US with any nuclear deadline : BJP
New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Taking a hard line on the nuclear issue, the BJP today said India can't be 'pressurised or coerced' by the US with any deadline for sending the Indo-US civilian nuclear agreement to the US Congress for ratification before May.
Reacting to the demands made by the Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Joseph R Biden, BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the demands made by the US Senators did not appear to be in right spirit and the country needed to take an informed decision on the crucial issue concerning the national and energy security after a through discussion not just in the govenrment but also with the political parties who have expressed their concern about provisions of Hyde Act. Even the Government is not sure of its position on the issue.
Such being the case, it is only proper that the coutry takes a right decision after doing a thorough political consultations.
Doubts were created in India following US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's statement about the Hyde Act and India can't take any hurried decision on such sensitive and critical issues concerning national security and sovereignty, he said.
