High Court issues notices to Centre on Govt ads

Chandigarh, Feb 20 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notice for July 7 to the Union government on a PIL, which had sought directions to restrain various ministries and departments from allegedly insulting national leaders.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Kanwaljit Singh Ahluwalia sent the notice on a PIL by Ram Kumar Singla of Panchkula that leaders like Jawahar Lal Nehru and Dr Rrajendra Prasad were being disrespected as the government departments were publishing their photographs in ads placed lower than Prime Minister, UPA chairperson and ministers.

In support of his contention, the petitioner annexed certain advertisements which appeared in an English daily published from here and New Delhi on November 14, 2007, January 30, 2008 and February 4, 2008.
