Haryana athletic events calendar released

Chandigarh, Feb 20 (UNI) The Haryana State Athletic Association will conduct its Senior Athletic Championship at Sonipat from October 2 to 4 and the Junior State Athletic meet at Chautala from August 1 to 3.

HSAA president Abhey Singh Chautala, who released the state athletic calendar today, said that besides hosting the state- level athletic competitions, the association will also organise regular coaching camps to prepare the Haryana athletes for the National and international athletic championships.

The association will also conduct off season coaching camps and also clincs for coaches to upgrade their knowledge. HSAA Secretary General HS Bhadu said that perrformance of the association in 2007 was encouraging as the Haryana athletes had won 283 medals, -- 93 gold, 65 silver and 60 bronze --in the international, national and zonal championships. With a view to gaining further excellence in track and field events, the association prepared the calendar for 2008.

According to the schedule the state athletes would participate in Federation Cup Senior National Athletic Championship at Bhopal from February 26, in Federation Cup National Jr. Athletic Championship at Karim Nagar in Andhra Pradesh from May 22-24 and in Inter- State Senior Athletic Championship at Chennai from June 9-12.

State Technical Official Test will be held at Sonipat on April 27.Off Season coaching camps for juniors would be conducted at Nidani and Sirsa from May 4-25.

District Athletic Championships at all districts of Haryana would be held from July 1-15 and the three-day Haryana State Junior Athletic Championship at Chautala would commence from August 1.

The juniors will participate in North Zone Jr. Athletic Championship in Uttar Pradesh from August 17-19, in National Inter zonal Junior Athletic Championship at Ranchi from September 2-4 and in National Youth Athletic Championship at Pune from Sept 20-22.

Participation in National Open Athletic Championship at Cochin would be from September 29 to Oct 1, in Haryana State Senior Athletic Championship at Sonipat from October 2-4, in National Inter District Junior Athletic Meet at Nasik from November 5-7, in National Junior Athletic Championship in Banglore from November 25-28, in National Cross Country Championship Bhilai on February 8, 2009.
