Kapila Vatsyayan to present Sahitya Akademi Awards 2007
New Delhi, Feb 19 (UNI) Leading scholar of classical Indian dance, and MP Dr Kapila Vatsyayan will present the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2007 as Chief Guest here tomorrow.
Novelists and poets dominated among the 24 winners of the Awards announced on December 26, 2007.
B M Maisnamba from Manipur for his Manipuri novel ''Imasi Nurabee'', and Purabi Bormudaoi from Assam for his Assamese novel ''Santanukulanandan'' are among seven novelists selected for the awards.
Janil Kumar Brahma is chosen for his short fiction -Dumphaoni Phitha in Bodo.
The winners will be presented with the awards, each comprising Rs 50,000 and a plaque. A three-member jury selected the literary creations from those works published between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2005, a release here said.
In connection with the Award Ceremony, the Sahitya Akademi will organise the Akademi 2007 Exhibition at the Sahitya Akademi Auditorium.
The award-winning authors would speak about their work and their creative experience at the Writers' Meet at the Auditorium.
A three-day international seminar on Swaraj in Literature: Decolonization, Social Justice and Cultural Identity will be held here under the auspices of Sahitya Akademi in association with Indian Council for Cultural Relations and Centre for English Studies of Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Twenty-four scholars will present their papers in the seminar.
