HC slaps fine on BJP nominee Surendra Patwa

Jabalpur, Feb 19 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court today struck down an election petition against Congress MLA Rajesh Patel, who represents Raisen district's Bhojpur.

The court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Bharatiya Janata Party nominee Surendra Patwa, who is the foster son of former chief minister Sunderlal Patwa and contested against Mr Patel in the 2003 elections.

Justice A K Shrivastav imposed the fine, as Mr Patwa was not able to present any evidence to support his accusations.

''Mr Patwa has alleged that Mr Patel's supporters captured 15 booths in the election,'' Defence Counsel Sujoy Pal submitted.

The petitioner was represented by Advocate Mrigendra Singh.
