Left Front denies militant nexus in Tripura
Agartala, Feb 18: Left Front has denied the recent claim of the underground outfit ATTF's political wing, Tripura People's Democratic Front (TPDF), that the ruling CPI(M) had sought its help for the forthcoming state elections.
CPI(M) spokesperson Goutam Das told the media here today that the allegations levelled against his party were totally baseless and it was a calculated conspiracy to misguide the voters ahead of poll. ''The CPI(M), which had always been a front-liner against terrorism and communal forces, will never seek any kind of help from outlawed group to win electoral battles,'' said Mr Das and alleged that the letter was an act of conspiracy by the Congress-INPT pact.
TPDF claimed that a section of ruling party leaders had approached them for help to form the 6th Left Front government in the state, but the former did not respond to the request.
A total of 53 CPI(M) leaders and cadres were killed by militants during the period, April 16, 1996 to October 16, 2005.
