Employ physically challenged:Barnala tells IT sector
Chennai, Feb 18 (UNI) IT Industries and Multinational companies should come forward to employ meritorious and physically challenged people, Tamil Nadu Governor S S Barnala said today.
Launching the monthly pension scheme for disabled women at a function here, the Governor said it was a miracle of nature that physically challenged could develop other senses and perform effectively, efficiently and quickly.
''Today India has become an IT hub and many International companies have started new ventures. Such IT Industries and Multinational companies should come forward to employ meritorious and physically challenged persons'', the Governor said.
Quoting statistics, Mr Barnala said there were about 40 million disabled in the country and in Tamil Nadu alone, there were 18 lakh disabled people.
People with disabilities were among the most excluded section in the society and were also victims of multiple deprivations, he said quoting a World Bank report.
Expressing regret that many disabled children do not go to school, the Governor wanted the Tamil Nadu Association, for welfare of the physically handicapped, should have a tie-up with the education authorities in districts and ensure that physically challenged attend schools.
He was pleased to learn that Jeppiaar Ramibai Charitable Trust founded by Educationist Jeppiaar was providing periodical financial assistance to the poor and deserving students, senior citizens and handicapped people.
