Congress to fight against Left in Tripura : Chavan

Agartala, Feb 18 (UNI) AICC general secretary and Minister of state in PMO Prithiviraj Chavan today made it clear that even as the Left parties support the UPA government at the Centre, the Congress would continue its effort to set up an anti-left government.

''I want to make it clear that we are united on the basis of the common minimum programme (CMP) in our fight against communalism, but it does not mean that we will give them a walkover in the state polls,'' Chavan told media here ahead of February 23 Tripura Assembly elections.

Chavan claimed the prospect of the Congress coming to power in the state was bright because the party was united and mentioned, ''The united face of the leaders in the state has generated much expectation among the people who feel that the party would be able to develop the state and solve the problems in the state.''
