Tension again grips Nashik area

Nashik, Feb 16 (UNI) Tension again flared up in Dindori taluka of the district today after a 20-year-old boy was critically injured in a firing incident by an unidentified security guard.

According to sources, there was an accident between two motorcycles near Walkhed. After which, one of the riders, the security guard (whose identity is not yet known) allegedly fired one round in the air from his .303 rifle, accidentally injuring the boy who was passing by from there. The boy, identified as Yogesh Shinde, sustained a bullet injury in his chest.

Following the incident, a mob of local people started pelting stones. To control the situation, police resorted to mild lathi charge, aggravating the situation. The irate mob allegedly damaged a police vehicle and attempted to set it ablaze, creating tension in the area. In the stone-pelting incident, five policemen were reportedly injured. Further details are awaited.

The severely injured youth was admitted to a private hospital here, where his condition is said to be critical.

The security guard has been arrested, sources added.

A riot control force has been summoned to help the police maintain law and order situation in the taluka.

In another incident which occurred earlier in the day in Dahegaon village of the same talkua, people from neighbouring village of Khedle allegedly pelted stones at the Buddha vihar, damaging a statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. The incident led to unrest in the area. However, the situation resolved later after a new bust was installed.
