Maramon convention concludes

Pathanamthitta, Feb 17 (UNI) The eight-day-long Maramon convention, billed as the largest Christian congregation, being held on the sand-bed of river Pampa at Maramon near Kozhencherry, came to a close today with a call to the faithful to spend the spiritual energy garnered from the words of God for the transformation of society.

Delivering the valedictory message to the 113th convention, the Supreme Head of Marthoma Church, Dr Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, exhorted the believers to re-establish the lost bonds of inter-personal relationships. The earth created by God was distorted by man, he added.

The Metropolitan sounded alarm by saying that man's life had been haunted by recurring natural calamities. Even science stood helpless before the wrath of nature. In this context, the only way-out was the compassion of God.

The Metropolitan pointed out that the present day world was caught in the whirlpool of tensions. Person to person communication had become impossible.

He said there was no room in families to talk with each other. He lamented that the graph of suicide had been soaring steadily in Kerala. Dr Myron S Augburger made the key-note address.
