KVPS demands Rs 7,860 cr for SC Sub Plan
Hyderabad, Feb 17 (UNI) Kula Vivaksha Porata Samithi (KVPS) activists today staged a dharna in the city, demanding that the state government allocate Rs 7,860 crore for SC Sub Plan in the 2008-09 budget.
The budget was presented by the Finance Minister K Rosaiah in the Assembly yesterday.
Alleging that the Finance Minister had presented 'magic number' budget neglecting the welfare of Scheduled Castes (SC) by not allocating 16 per cent of total budget to nodal agencies as required, the KVPS General Secretary John Vesly said only Rs 1,298 crore was allocated for social welfare as against the demand of Rs 2,257 crore for this year.
As a mark of protest, the activists placed a memorandum at the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar, to render justice to the underprivilaged.
