Hooda asks for Rs 500 crore compensation package for farmers
Chandigarh, Feb 17 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to provide a special package of Rs 500 crore to compensate the farmers of the state for the loss of their Rabi crops.
Chief Parliamentary Secretary Dharambir Singh, while addressing the people at Badhra in Bhiwani district said that this special package had been demanded for compensating the farmers for the loss of their crops of mustard, vegetables like potato and tomato due to frost and extreme cold conditions.
He said that apart from this, the Chief Minister had also been impressing upon the Central Government to make a provision in the Natural Calamity Fund for this purpose.
"It is a big loss to the farmers that their mustard crops is highly affected by extreme cold. The state Government is committed to provide compensation to the farmers for their loss of crops, Mr Dharambir said.
