Chennai, Feb 17 (UNI) The first consultative committee meeting of Arasu Cable TV Corporation, floated by the Tamil Nadu government to regulate the Cable TV operations in the state, would be held here on February 19.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will chair the meeting to be held at State Secretariat, an official release here said.
Two representatives of the Cable TV operators federation and the members of the consultative committee would participate in the meeting.
The meeting would be held in the backdrop of allegation of threat and criminal intimidation by police against the operators of the Marans-owned largest MSO Sumangali Cable Vision (SCV), forcing them to switch to another player, the Mumbai-based Hathway.
It may be recalled that DMK MP and former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran, the estranged grand nephew of the Chief Minister, petitioned the police yesterday alleging that SCV cable operators were being arrested and threatened to switch to Hathway, which was denied by the police.
Mr Maran said he was hopeful of Mr Karunanidhi solving the issue amicably.
With Chief Minister's son M K Azhagiri reportedly convening a meeting in the city and appealing to the SCV operators to switch to Hathway, the disgruntled operators wanted the Chief Minister to take immediate steps to protect the interests of 1.5 lakh cable operators in the state.
