TWAD contractors threaten boycott
Kancheepuram, Feb 16 (UNI) Faced with increase in prices of raw materials, the Kancheepuram District TWAD Contrators Welfare Association today decided to boycott all tenders floated by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD) till it increased the price index by 40 per cent.
Informing this to the press after a meeting of the association this morning, State President Kasirajan said the contractors had not taken up any tender after February five. However, they would complete the works already taken up.
On an average, TWAD takes up 7,500 works valued at Rs 1,500 crore annually, he said.
The boycott is likely to hit 1,000 works worth Rs 120 crore on a monthly average, he claimed and sought the government's intervention in the issue.
