K'taka: Police Inspector held for taking bribe

Bangalore, Feb 16: Lokayukta police arrested an inspector of police of Birur in Chikmagalur District for allegedly accepting a bribe for showing an official favour.

According to the press release issued here today, the police inspector S Veerabhadrappa of Birur Police station had demanded Rs 10,000 from Guru, a farmer, for giving protection from his uncle on a land dispute. The Inspector had accepted Rs 6000 on Wednesday and was trapped by the police while receiving the final instalment of the bribe from Guru.

The police inspector was produced before the magistrate and was sent to judicial custody, the release added.
