N Railway to double spending on facilities

Ambala, Feb 16 (UNI) The Northern Railway plans to double its expenditure to Rs 82 crore to provide extra facilities to the passengers, the Northern Railway Board General Manager Shri Prakash said here today.

Interacting with medipersons during his tour here, he said that last year's expenditure of Rs 41 crore had been doubled for making the journey more comfortable for the passengers and some new trains would be introduced in view of the increasing number of passengers.

Talking about the achievements made during the year, Mr Prakash said that the Northern Railway had recorded an impressive increase in the income. It had earned 11 per cent more against the earnings of last year and there was an increase of 12 per cent in the passengers traffic. Moreover, newly-introduced container traffic was becoming popular and had registered an increase to the tune of 17 percent.

He said that new trains would be run on the routes which were experiencing a rush of passengers and the halting of trains at the stations was also being reviewed.

He said that unmanned railway level crossings were being covered by appointing the employees to avoid accidents.
