Major train accident averted in UP

Varanasi, Feb 16 (UNI) An alert pointman averted the Lichchhavi express train from a major accident here today.

Some anti-social elements had removed the nutbolts of the railway line in front of Jagatpur village under Rohania police station area, sources said.

Delhi bound Lichchhavi Express train was to pass on this rail line, when the pointman noticed that the nutbolts were removed.

The pointman ran with a red flag on the railway line and succeeded in halting the train just 500 metre away from the damaged line.

He also stopped the Allahabad-Varanasi passenger train by showing the red flag.

Getting the information, a team of engineers and officers later reached the spot and fitted the nutbolts.

The movement of trains started on the line after one hour.
