Burmese freedom fighters file application for day to day trial
Kolkata, Feb 16 (UNI) Thirty-four Burmese freedom fighters, presently lodged in Presidency jail, today filed a criminal motion at the City Sessions court here for day to day trial of their case in accordance with the Supreme Court order.
Advocate Anil Sharma, representing the freedom fighters, in his application mentioned that the Burmese freedom fighters were ''illegally'' arrested and detained in Andaman Islands on February nine in 1998.
The Apex court in its order on September eleven in 2006 directed the case to be transferred to Kolkata and the trial be held on a day-to-day basis.
However, Mr Sharma said since September 2007, the trial had stopped because of the transfer of the Presiding Officer.
The Chief Judge of the city sessions court fixed the date for hearing on February 22.
