BJP MLA surrounded by tribals
Jagadalpur, Chhattisgarh, Feb 16 (UNI) Several BJP workers, including a party legislator, were surrounded today by angry tribals, who were protesting against setting up of the proposed Tata Steel Plant in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
A conference of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha workers was going on in the community hall in Lohadiguda when some tribals surrounded it thinking a meeting regarding setting up of the steel plant was underway. Lohadiguda MLA Lachhuram Kashyap was present in the meeting.
Police intervention prevented the situation from turning ugly and Mr Kashyap was rescued. Other party workers locked themselves in the rooms.
Eyewitnesses said Mr Kashyap had tried to pacify agitating tribals saying that the meeting had nothing to do with the setting up of the steel plant. However, the tribals were in no mood to listen.
Later, police intervened and persuaded tribals to return.
