Plea to raise paddy MSP
Tiruchirapalli, Feb 15 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Horticulture Crops Producers' Association today urged the Centre to make budgetary allocations to fix Rs 1,000 as the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy per quintal, on par with paddy.
In his letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister P Chidambaram and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, a copy of which was released to the press here, Association state unit President Puliyur A Nagarajan said that low MSP for paddy had affected its growers. It was high time the Government settled the discrepancy.'' The Centre should write off all the farm loans to stave off the continuing trend of farmers' suicides, Mr Nadarajan added.
