CBI files Nandigram report in High Court
Kolkata, Feb 15 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation today submitted a report on the March 14 police firing in Nandigram in 14 were killed and dozen injured.
CBI counsel Ranjan Roy placed a sealed envelope containing the months-long investigation into the violence before the Registrar's office as it was not listed.
A two-judge bench, presided by Chief Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar, ordered a probe into the incident immediately after it occurred at the riverside village which had been planned for an industrial park.
Villagers' resistance against the plan triggered widespread violence prompting the police to open fire on protesters and forcing the government to drop the plan.
CBI investigating into the incident sought more time before the Court to complete the probe. The deadline for submitting the report ends on February 16.
