BJP supports creation of Telangana state
New Delhi, Feb 15 (UNI) Strongly attacking the statement of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajashekhara Reddy's statement that the creation of Telangana would escalate the extremist problems the BJP said he was only giving an excuse for not implementing his own party's promises.
BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said that Dr Reddy should know that the naxal problems in Chhatisgarh cropped up because of the wrong policies of his government and the ceasefire agreed by his government. The naxals had regrouped during the ceasefire period and extended their activities in Chhatisgarh, he added.
He said creation of Chhatisgarh from Madhya Pradesh had helped faster development in both the states and rising extremism could not be an excuse for not granting statehood to Telangana. The BJP supports immediate formation of Telangana as promised in 2004 by the the Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti headed by K Chandrasekhara Rao, he said.
