Strike affects functioning of Govt offices

Puducherry, Feb 14: Functioning of the government offices in the Union Territory were severly affected as the Federation of Puducherry State Government Employees Association today went on a strike and staged a dharna near the Nehru statue from 0900 hrs to 1300 hrs to press their demands.

Talking to newspersons here, Federation General Secretary Seshachalam urged the administration to fill up 3,000 vacant posts in various departments, conferring of B2 status for Puducherry town, interim relief of Rs 1,000 per month till the implementation of the sixth pay commission and setting up of a Public Service Commissin for appointment of group "A" and "B" posts.
