Seven Maoists killed in encounter with NSS, police
Jamshedpur, Feb 14 (UNI) At least seven ultras, including the suspected murderer of JMM MP Sunil Mahto, were killed during a joint encounter with the Nagarik Suraksha Samity (NSS) and police at Phoojhor village under Dumaria police station in East Singbhum district early today.
Activists of NSS, a village force formed to combat the naxalite menace, on being tipped off about the naxalites' movement, surrounded them late last night near Ranijharna area, police said.
However, the rebels opened fire at the NSS group, led by its general secretary Dhanai Kisku, forcing them to retaliate.
Police said two cadres, including Vikash, who masterminded Mr Mahto's murder at Baghuria village in March last year, were killed on the spot.
Later the police joined the NSS activists and killed five more ultras, police said.
Superintendent of Police Naveen Kumar Singh and other top police officials rushed to the spot.
The villagers of Lango under same police station area had lynched seven ultras few years back, the sources said.
