Petrol, diesel price hike will lead to price spiral: BJP

New Delhi, Feb 14 (UNI) Terming the hike in the prices of petrol and diesel as likely to ''add fuel to fire in further adding to the price rise'', Delhi Pradesh BJP president Harsh Vardhan today demanded the Centre to immediately withdraw the move.

In a statement issued here, Dr Harsh Vardhan also demanded that by reducing the sales tax Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit should neutralise the increase in the fuel price in Delhi.

The BJP Pradesh president said during the UPA rule the price of petrol and diesel has been increased more than half a dozen times.

''By increasing the price of petrol by Rs 2 per litre and diesel by Re 1 per litre, the Centre has proved that it is not worried about the people at all. The increase in the price of petrol and diesel will make the transport more costly and all the essential commodities shall become more costly,''he said.

In a separate statement issued here, former Union Minister and BJP national secretary Vijay Goel said the hike in petrol would put additional burden on the nearly 40 lakh people who use private vehicles like cars and two wheelers.
