HC verdict on DGP and Mumbai CP's extension tommorrow
Mumbai, Feb 14 (UNI) The Bombay High Court will pronounce its verdict on a public interest litigation, challenging the three- month extension given to Director General of Police Dr P S Pasricha and Mumbai Police Commissioner D N Jadhav.
A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice J P Devdhar started dictating the order, which could not be completed today.
The All India Service Rules provide extension option only for Chief Secretaries of states. Extension could also be granted to other serving officers after attaining age of superannuation only if they are part of some important committee and the committee is about to be wound up or the officer is involved in budget work.
Contending that since both the police officers do not fall in any of the criteria laid down by the All India Service Rules, the petitioners urged the court to strike down the extension orders issued by Central Government as per proposal of State Government.
The State Government has contended that there were intelligence reports, which required extending services of the DG and the CP and the extension orders were as per rules only.
