Hafed to launch more consumer products in market

Chandigarh, Feb 14 (UNI) The Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (Hafed) has decided to launch desi wheat atta, branded sugar and brown Basmati rice in the market.

Giving this information here today, Cooperation Minister H S Chatha said that during the current financial year, Hafed had almost doubled its sales figures of consumer products upto January end by registering an increase of 92 per cent in comparison with the sales figures achieved during the similar period of previous financial year.

"At the same time, 140 per cent increase has also been registered during the month of January 2008 as compared with the previous year January sales figure," he added.

"This growth is the result of various steps taken by the organisation to strengthen and streamline its distribution network, improving its quality by making necessary investments in its processing units and various brand image building initiatives," Mr Chatha said.

"In order to ensure that the consumers get only the pure products Hafed is sourcing the raw material like Basmati Paddy and desi wheat through contract farming for which Hafed makes available seed and technical guidance to the farmers. Moreover, all Hafed's Processing Units where these products are manufactured are not only ISO 9001:2000 certified but also HACCP certified for food safety," the Minister said.
