Govt official calls for awareness on SEZs
Hyderabad, Feb 14 (UNI) The Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce, G K Pillai today underlined the need for better awareness about Special Economic Zones(SEZs) and its importance for the economic growth to remove the misconception among people.
Participating in a book release function titled: 'SEZ International Experience and Indian Scenario', he said there was a misconception on SEZs in the country.
Mr Pillai said SEZs Act came into force from July 2006 and the Government had issued guidelines on the issue.
He said the country had received Investments worth Rs 60,000 crore in SEZs within two years, compared to Rs 7000 crore in the last 45 years. Steps would be taken to attract Investments at 439 SEZs in the country, he added.
He said the Government had acquired 60,000 acres of land so far for the SEZs.
