Decision on amendments to Anti-Hijacking Act deferred
New Delhi, Feb 14 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today deferred a decision on the amendments to the Anti-Hijacking Act of 1982, expected to provide for a no-negotiation policy and death penalty to the hijackers.
''The decision was postponed as Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel was not present. The proposal will be taken up at the next Cabinet meeting,'' Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.
The proposed measures would treat hijacking as an act of aggression and entail directions to all domestic airports to promptly immobilise a hijacked plane if it lands.
