Committee formed for implementing Police Commission report
Chennai, Feb 14 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced constitution of a high-level committee, headed by the State Home Secretary, to suggest measures for implementing the recommendations of the Third Police Commission.
The Committee would also comprise Finance Secretary or his representative, State DGP P Rajendran and ADGP (Training) K Ramanujam, an official release here said.
Constitution of the high-level committee was one of the 444 recommendations made in the Commission's report, submitted to the Chief Minister by its Chairman and retired bureaucrat R Poornalingam yesterday.
The Third Police Commission was appointed by the Government in August 2006 to recommend, among other things, modernisation of the police force and making police administration effective and responsive to people.
It may be recalled that the previous two police commissions in 1969 and 1989 were also appointed by the then DMK Governments, headed by Mr Karunanidhi, and their recommendations implemented.
