AGP dharna over flood measures
Guwahati, Feb 14 (UNI) The Asom Gana Parishad(AGP) today staged a dharna demanding quick start of the work of the Metmore embankment, crucial to the entire flood situation of the state.
The dharna, organised at the Last Gate area of the city, was led by party MP Arun Sharma, Vice-President Chandra Mohan Patowary and Keshav Mahanta and party general secretary Dilip Saikia.
They alleged that despite being the most strategic embankment of the state, protecting it from the Himalaya fed rivers during the flood, the basic work had not yet been started.
The embankment was severely damged during last year's floods inundating all but three districts of Assam and leaving a trail of destruction.
