Acoustic enclosures made mandatory for diesel generators
Chandigarh, Feb 14 (UNI) Haryana State Pollution Control Board has instructed the owners of industrial units to install acoustic enclosures or acoustically treated room for their existing Diesel Generator (DG) set and other noise polluting devices so as to bring the noise level within the permissible limits.
Chairman of the Board, Dr A S Chahal said that the noise polluting machinery must be housed in buildings and sheds lined with noise absorbers, hallow bricks, gap between walls or rubber lining depending on situation.
Mr Chahal said that the State Government was committed to provide noise pollution free environment to its citizens and expected full cooperation from the public in their own interest.
The Chairman also urged the manufacturers, suppliers and assemblers of DG set not to manufacture, assemble or supply DG set without necessary acoustic enclosure.
Religious institutions and all others using loud speakers and DJs were also directed to observe the prescribed rules to maintain noise level within permissible limits, he said adding that various local authorities had been notified for enforcement of noise rules.
He said that the ambient air quality standard for noise according to area was for industrial area 75 dB (A) (average decibel values) during the day time from 0600 hrs am to 2200hrs and 70 dB during night time from 2200 hrs to 0600 hrs, for commercial area 65 dB during day time and 55 dB during night time, for residential area 55 dB during day and 45 dB during night and for silence zone 50 dB during day and 40 dB for night.
