6 inmates injured in clash in Meerut Jail

Meerut, Feb 14: At least six inmates were seriously injured today in a clash between two groups of prisoners in the District Jail here in Uttar Pradesh.

The seriously injured were admitted to the jail hospital. Senior Jail Superintendent Santosh Srivastav said the inmates of barrack number two and 10 clashed last night after they received news of a suspected attack on Vinod Gujjar when he would be taken to the Court.

Senior police personnel and officials of the jail authority immediately rushed to the spot after they received the information.

In a search operation conducted after the incident, 17 mobile phones, seven sim cards, 20 mobile chargers and thousands of rupees in cash were recovered from the possession of the inmates.

Superintendent of Police Rakesh Jolly said 18 notorious prisoners were shifted to Fatehpur, Lalitpur, Jaunpur, Mainpuri and Agra jails.
