Tripura militant snatch six more EPICs

Agartala, Feb 13: The banned BNCT militants in Tripura has snatched about six more Electoral Photo ID Cards (EPIC) from the villagers in remote Bijoy Master Para in Dhalai district of Tripura four days ago.

Police said here today that the extremists raided the area on February nine night last and forcibly snatched away the cards from six villagers and a case had been registered but none was arrested so far in this connection.

Police also said that the matter had been informed to Returning Officer and Election Observer of Longtorai Valley subdivision and the investigation was launched against the criminals. Earlier, the militant had snatched another 17 EPICs from various areas of the district.

Unknown miscreants seriously injured one CPI (M) Divisional committee member Ajit Debbarma in Khowai of West Tripura last night when he along with other party workers were on their way homes from an election meeting.

Police said, a group of rebels blocked their road near at Baramaidan and beating them up and threatened them with dire consequences if they did not stop working for CPM.

Mr Debbarma sustained serious injuries and was shifted to GB hospital in critical condition. The CPI (M) condemned the incident and accused opposition congress-INPT and demanded action against the militants as well as to increase the security of the party leaders and workers in sensitive areas.
