Police yet to record Azmi's statement
Mumbai, Feb 13 (UNI) Even after three days of a case registered against Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Abu Asim Azmi, police have yet to record his statement.
Mr Azmi today clarified that his statement had not been recorded by the police as yet even after three days of filing First Information Report (FIR) against him for alleged provoking speech.
Mr Azmi told UNI over the phone that though the security had been tightened in the area, neither his statement was recorded nor the police have informed about his arrest. The situation was same as yesterday, he added.
He said he had told the party workers of Nashik to stop people who were leaving the city due to fear of assault. Since past couple of days, North Indians were leaving for their native place following continued attacks on their community by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers.
Earlier, the city police had slapped notice against Mr Azmi and MNS chief Raj Thackeray restraining them from holding public rally, press conference and meeting party workers.
Mr Azmi had met Police Commissioner D N Jadhav yesterday for his arrest and said that he was ready to surrender before the police to enable the law and order authority to maintain peace in the city.
On Sunday night, the police had registered FIR against Mr Azmi at Azad Maidan and Mr Thackeray at Vikroli police station u/s 117, 151 153(a)(b).
