Govt to perform mass marriages for minority groups
Hyderabad, Feb 13 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Energy and Minority Welfare Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir today said the State Government would perform mass marriages for the poor minority Communities in May.
Replying to a question by MLC P Subba Reddy in the Legislative Council here, he said the Government would allocate funds to perform the marriages, on the lines of Kalyanamastu organised by TTD for Hindu mass marriages, in the 2008-09 Budget to be presented on February 16.
Stating that the marriages would be performed through the State Wakf Board, he said the Government would bear all ceremonial costs, including providing utensils to the new couples.
The modalities for the selection of the candidates were under consideration, the minister added.
