Family attempts suicide by dousing kerosene

Tiruchirapalli, Feb 13 (UNI) In what appeared to be a suicide pact, a cloth merchant was charred to death and his wife and daughter seriously injured, when they burnt themselves after dousing kerosene at their residence on Allimal Street in the city today.

Police said Annadurai (36) and his family took the extreme step due to mounting debts and continuous loss suffered in his business.

On hearing their cries, neighbours informed the police who rushed to the spot and broke the door, which was bolted from inside.

The merchant's body was removed to the Government Headquarters Hospital here for post-mortem.

Ms Vairamani (30) and their daughter Thanusuyaa (9) were admitted to the same hospital where their condition was said to be critical, police said.
