East Godavari to surpass rice procurement target

Kakinada, Feb 13 (UNI) East Godavari district is poised to surpass the rice procurement target of 8,94,940 MT for the crop year 2007-08, as 6,07,289 MT of rice has been procured till February 12.

Addressing a press conference here today, Joint Collector G S R K R Vijaya Kumar said the entire Kharif marketing season that commenced from October one, 2007, would conclude by September 30, 2008. The procurement was in full swing and the target would be surpassed within a couple of months, almost six months ahead of the schedule.

He said the significant achievement during the present season was that 15,358 MT of raw rice was delivered towards levy by the district rice millers in a single day on December 26, 2007.
