Bharti CEO awarded Global Telecom Sectors' highest honour
Ahmedabad, Feb 13 (UNI) Group Chairman and CEO of Bharti Enterprises, Sunil Bharti Mittal has been awarded the Global Telecom Sectors' highest honour ''GSM Association Chairman's Award 2008'' for his tremendous contribution to the development of India's telecom sector.
On receiving the award, Mr Mittal said, ''This is a tremendous honour and thanks to GSM Association for considering me worthy of this award.'' He said that this award is a tribute to India's telecom growth story and Bharti's vision and the emergence of Indian telcos on the global stage.
''It has been a privilege for me personally and Bharti Airtel to have been a part of this telecom revolution that has delivered affordable telecom services for all and has transformed the lives of millions across India,'' he said.
GSM Association Chairman Craig Bhrlich said that Mr Mittal has built an incredibly successful business from scratch, which has had a truly transformational impact on our industry, customers and on India's economy.
The GSMA Chairman's award was established in 1995 which recognises people or organisations that have made a real difference to the mobile industry. Some of the previous awardees include Jorma Ollila, former CEO and now chairman of Nokia and Sir Christopher Gent, former CEO of Vodafone.
