Bird flu hits the shuttlecock industry

Jalandhar, Punjab, Feb 11, 2008 : Incidence of avian flu and the culling of the affected birds in India"s eastern Bengal have caused an acute shortage of feathers and this has severely hit the shuttlecock industry in the northern city of Jalandhar.

The shuttlecock industry which is already reeling under the impact of the Indian Government"s 2006 ban on import of goose feathers from China has been also hit by the culling of birds suffering from the influenza.
